2010 Hollywood Romances That Bite The Dust

Another year, another “Hollywood Romance” bites the dust. I don’t find pleasure with these tabloid headlines. What I find is two human beings that are struggling with love, like we all do, from coast to coast, world wide. They decided to call it quits. Maybe they could have chose

n to work through their problems together and become an even stronger couple. Maybe they couldn’t and needed to get out.

Nonetheless, many of these break-ups left us speechless because WE wanted and needed them to work out to give us hope in our own lives. These people are just PEOPLE, modern day heros – sex symbols and acolytes of the Silver & Small Screen.

One of the most recent shockers is when two of the sexiest people alive split, Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds. Another one bites the dust. What the heck? Whether on opposite sides of the globe or in the same bedroom, why can they not make it work?

Another one bites the dust. Sandra Bullock & Jesse James. America’s Sweetheart was cheated on by Reality TV’s bad boy. Ladies, the Bad Boy is probably NOT going to change.

Another one bites the dust. Kate Winslet & Sam Mendes. Did Kate catch the so-called Best Actress Oscar winning curse shared by her cohorts – Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, and Sandra Bullock? After 7 years of marriage and a little boy, the couple claims that their split was amicable and by mutual agreement. Hopefully they have found their way through a conscious divorce for their little one’s sake.

Another one bites the dust. Courtney Cox & David Arquette. The couple agreed upon a trial separation to better understand themselves and what they are actually looking for in a partner.

Another one bites the dust. Vanessa Hudgens & Zac Efron. The young stars of the High School Musical decided to sing different tunes and remain “friends”. Our hearts break when we see this puppy love die. But, the good news is that they decided to call it quits instead of getting hitched too young, not knowing who they are and what they really want.

Another one bites the dust. Billy Ray & Tish Cyrus. After 17-years the married couple, with five children say farewell. Wow! After 17 years of marriage & 5 kids, they decided not to take the steps to avoid divorce. Or, maybe they did and they still decided to go separate ways.

Another one bites the dust. Al & Tipper Gore. These high school sweethearts and models of fidelity and family values, surprised us all when they announced their separation right after their 40 year anniversary. Really?

So, why do these Hollywood romances fail? They live in a world where nobody says no to them. Maybe some believe that their real life romances will mirror the ones they experience in their scripts. And then there is the theory of what happens on set stays on set. Or, does it? Many times they leave their real domestic lives behind to play another character in another relationship where it is easier to commit infidelity.

Why can’t we make it work? We are all just people. Sometimes you just can’t make it work. Sometimes you can – but it takes work. This includes handling conflict in a constructive manner, agreeing to disagree, taking a marriage class or seeing a solution focused counselor, focusing on the positives instead of negatives, giving each other what each wants and needs, and of course spending time together flirting, communicating and doing whatever it takes to keep the passion alive.
